Sulawesi, Indonesia, 10km North of Baturube, 2008. |
I have been collecting Lepidoptera at least since the
age of 10. There were ups and downs, but I never fully quit this
hobby. With the exception of a few gifts from friends, I only collect
specimens that I have captured myself in the wild. For this reason
I like to think of myself as a hunter, not a collector.
Man against beast and all that stuff. You may laugh, but try chasing
an Uranus moth on a hot sunny day around a rainforest clearing,
or a Tatochila white at 4700m elevation, and you will see
what I mean. Right now my collection boasts 4206 unique
catalogued specimens. One day, I plan to add it to the
millions-strong insect collection of my school ETHZ, which
is mostly built from private contributions. |
Dear ENVIRONMENTALIST: if you have
concerns about the environmental
impact of my collecting please visit
this page. I am pretty
sure that I am at least as passionate about butterfly
conservation as you are, and that we are actually on the same
team. |
The specimen photos on this site are provided for catalog purposes
and are, by no means, of artistic quality. The catalog is fully up to date
as of November 2019. A complete holdings
list is available. I invite you to check out some "field
reports" of my
chasing butterflies across 6 continents. Also,
please click on the icons below to watch slideshows of select recent
specimens, or browse the complete digital collection further down.
